Ox Bile
Ox Bile Extract
A supplemental bile source for those without a gallbladder or with bile insufficiency to help digest fats.
Ox Bile provides supplemental bile acids for people who have had their gallbladder removed or who have insufficient bile production. Bile is essential for digesting and absorbing dietary fats and fat-soluble vitamins. Without adequate bile, people experience fatty food intolerance, bloating, and nutrient malabsorption.
Mechanisms of Action
Fat Emulsification
Breaks down fats into smaller droplets
Fat-Soluble Vitamin Absorption
Enables absorption of vitamins A, D, E, K
Recommended Dose
100-500mg with fatty meals
Loading: Start with lower dose and adjust based on fat content of meal
Optimal Timing
- At the beginning of meals containing fat
- Not needed for low-fat meals
Take with food
Best Form
Ox bile capsules
Alternatives: Combination digestive enzymes with bile, Bile salts
Often combined with lipase for enhanced fat digestion.
Duration
Minimum: 1 weeks
Optimal: 4 weeks
Cycling: Not required
Note: Only needed with meals containing significant fat. Dose based on meal fat content.

Improved Fat Tolerance
Less discomfort after fatty meals
Better Nutrient Absorption
Improved absorption of fat-soluble vitamins
Reduced Bloating
Less post-meal bloating and discomfort
Primary indication; often very helpful
Who Should NOT Take This
- Bile duct obstruction
- Acute gallbladder inflammation
Possible Side Effects
Tip: Reduce dose
Tip: Take with food
Warnings
- Excess can cause loose stools
- Not needed with low-fat meals

âThis observational examined the effects of Ox Bile.â
Key Findings:
- RNA-sequencing and co-immunoprecipitation reveal that the compromised bile acid metabolism inhibits farnesoid X receptor (FXR) signaling, disrupts the FXR/Îē-catenin interaction, and ultimately exacerbates colorectal tumorigenesis.
- Significantly, FXR agonist obeticholic acid (OCA) averts cholecystectomy-related colorectal tumorigenesis.
- The gut microbiota holds a crucial position in cholecystectomy-induced colorectal tumorigenesis, and modulation of the gut microbiota-bile acid-FXR axis represents a promising preventive strategy.ÂĐ 2025.

âThese findings identify dysregulated bile acid metabolism as a potential therapeutic target in MS.â
Key Findings:
- TUDCA prevented neurotoxic (A1) polarization of astrocytes and proinflammatory polarization of microglia in a dose-dependent manner.
- TUDCA supplementation in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis reduced the severity of disease through its effects on G protein-coupled bile acid receptor 1 (GPBAR1).
- We demonstrate that bile acid metabolism was altered in MS and that bile acid supplementation prevented polarization of astrocytes and microglia to neurotoxic phenotypes and ameliorated neuropathology in an animal model of MS.
- These findings identify dysregulated bile acid metabolism as a potential therapeutic target in MS.

âLifestyle interventions are a promising treatment for psoriasis and its associated co-morbidities.â
Key Findings:
- Lifestyle interventions are a promising treatment for psoriasis and its associated co-morbidities.
- However, gaps and inadequacies exist within the literature, e.g. methodology, absence of a unified scoring system, lack of controlled clinical data and lack of studies without simultaneous usage of biologics or alternative therapies.
- Future directions should focus on high quality cohort studies and clinical trials.

Key Findings:
- Subsequently, all fractions were tested for their anti-oxidative property on HepG2 cells exposed to H2O2 that served as an oxidative injury model.
- Four fluorescent dyes H2DCF DA, MitoSOX red, Amplex red and DAF-2 DA were used for estimation of reactive radicals in the HepG2 cells.
- Among the separated bile acids, tauroursodeoxycholic acid, glycoursodeoxycholic acid and ursodeoxycholic acid prevented the HepG2 cells from H2O2-induced oxidative stress.Copyright ÂĐ 2015 Elsevier B.V.

âWe review the current literature and expert opinion on treatments for SLOS and other selected sterol disorders, including dietary cholesterol therapy, statin treatment, bile acid supplementation, medical therapies, and surgical interventions, as well as directions for future therapies and treatment research.Copyright ÂĐ 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.â
Key Findings:
- Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (SLOS) is an autosomal recessive genetic condition with a broad phenotype that results from deficiency of the final enzyme of the cholesterol synthesis pathway.
- This defect causes low or low-normal plasma cholesterol levels and increased 7- and 8-dehydrocholesterol (DHC) levels.
- Many therapies for SLOS and other disorders of sterol metabolism have been proposed, and a few of them have been undertaken in selected patients, but robust prospective clinical trials with validated outcome measures are lacking.
