- The number of patients with death or significant disability was lower in the vinpocetine group than that in the placebo group at both 1 and 3 months (relative risk 0.80, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.65-0.99 and relative risk 0.67, CI 0.48-0.92, p = 0.04 and 0.02, respectively).
- The degree of disability in participants at 1 month and 3 months was also lower in vinpocetine group than that in the placebo group (standardized mean difference (SMD) 0.49, 95% CI 0.03-0.95 and SMD 1.22, CI 0.23-2.24, p = 0.001 and 0.04, respectively).
- Change in mini-mental state examination score compared with baseline at trial enrolment was also better in the vinpocetine group than in the placebo group (pooled weighted mean difference 0.92, 95% CI 0.02-1.82, p = 0.04).

Anti-inflammatory effects of vinpocetine in atherosclerosis and ischemic stroke: a review of the literature
Zhang L et al. • Molecules (Basel, Switzerland) (2014)
This review clarifies the anti-inflammatory role of vinpocetine in atherosclerosis and ischemic stroke.
- The nuclear factor κ-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells κB (NF-κB) pathway plays a key role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and ischemic stroke.
- Vinpocetine is believed to be a potent anti-inflammatory agent and has been used to treat cerebrovascular disorders.
- Vinpocetine improves neuronal plasticity and reduces the release of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines from endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, macrophages, and microglia, by inhibiting the inhibitor of the NF-κB pathway.
Role Ca(2+) in mechanisms of the red blood cells microrheological changes
Muravyov A et al. • Advances in experimental medicine and biology (2012)
And the final red cell microrheological regulatory effect is connected with the crosstalk between these systems.
- Red cell aggregation was significantly decreased under these conditions (p<0.01).
- Somewhat more significant deformability rise appeared after RBC incubation with dB-AMP.
- On the whole the total data clearly show that the red cell aggregation and deformation changes were connected with an activation of both intracellular signaling pathways: Ca(2+) regulatory mechanism and Gs-protein/adenylyl-cyclase-cAMP system.
