TUDCA capsules (pure tauroursodeoxycholic acid)
Best Form

TUDCA is a taurine-conjugated form of ursodeoxycholic acid, a bile acid naturally found in small amounts in humans and more abundantly in bear bile (now synthesized). It has powerful hepatoprotective effects, reduces endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and supports healthy bile flow. Used clinically for liver diseases and increasingly popular for liver support, gut health, and metabolic optimization.

Mechanisms of Action

🔧
ER Stress Reduction

Reduces cellular stress that damages tissues

🛡️
Hepatoprotection

Protects liver cells from damage

🔄
Bile Flow Support

Promotes healthy bile secretion

Recommended Dose

250-500mg daily for general support; up to 1500mg for therapeutic use

250mg1500mg

Optimal Timing

  • With meals containing fat
  • Before or with fatty meals

Take with food

Best Form

TUDCA capsules (pure tauroursodeoxycholic acid)

Alternatives: UDCA (ursodeoxycholic acid — prescription in many countries)

TUDCA is more water-soluble and may have better absorption than UDCA.

Duration

Minimum: 4 weeks

Optimal: 12 weeks

Cycling: 8-12 weeks on, 4 weeks off. Can use continuously at lower doses under medical supervision.

Note: Taking with fat-containing meals supports bile function. Can split into 2 doses.

Key Findings:
  • The tauroursodeoxycholic acid (TUDCA), one of the acids found in bear bile, is a hydrophilic bile acid and naturally produced in the liver by conjugation of taurine to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA).
  • Our research extends the knowledge of the bile acid TUDCA actions in ND and the mechanisms and pathways involved in its cytoprotective effects on the brain, providing a novel perspective and opportunities for treatment of these diseases.Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Inc.

“Research Strategy: Key word searching of PubMed was employed to locate the research papers whose findings are cited in this essay.”
Key Findings:
  • The potential advantages of whole-food plant-based diets, moderation in salt intake, avoidance of phosphate additives, and regular exercise training and sauna sessions are also discussed.
  • There should be considerable scope for the development of functional foods and supplements which make it more convenient and affordable for patients to consume complementary combinations of the agents discussed here.

“This review explores the findings of recent studies highlighting bile acid-mediated therapies and bile acid-mediated signaling and the roles they play in neurodegenerative and neurological diseases.”
Key Findings:
  • Recent studies have shown that bile acid signaling may also have a prevalent role in the central nervous system.
  • Some bile acids, such as tauroursodeoxycholic acid and ursodeoxycholic acid, have shown neuroprotective potential in experimental animal models and clinical studies of many neurological conditions.
  • Alterations in bile acid metabolism have been discovered as potential biomarkers for prognosis tools as well as the expression of various bile acid receptors in multiple neurological ailments.
