Royal Jelly
Royal Jelly
A nutrient-rich bee secretion that supports energy, skin health, and may help regulate hormones and cholesterol.
Royal jelly is a milky secretion produced by worker bees to feed the queen bee, who lives 40 times longer than regular bees. It contains proteins, B vitamins, fatty acids (including unique 10-HDA), and royalactin. Research shows potential benefits for skin health, cholesterol, blood sugar, menopausal symptoms, and cognitive function. Its effects on bee longevity have made it popular as an anti-aging supplement.
Mechanisms of Action
10-HDA Fatty Acid
Unique bioactive fatty acid
Royalactin
Protein that triggers queen development
Nutrient Complex
Rich in B vitamins and amino acids
Recommended Dose
300-3000mg daily
Loading: Not required
Optimal Timing
- Morning on empty stomach (traditional)
- With food if GI sensitive
Can be taken without food
Best Form
Fresh frozen royal jelly or lyophilized capsules
Alternatives: Liquid royal jelly, Honey-mixed royal jelly
Fresh must be refrigerated. Freeze-dried maintains potency. Look for standardized 10-HDA content (typically 5-6%).
Duration
Minimum: 4 weeks
Optimal: 12 weeks
Cycling: 8-12 weeks on, 4 weeks off
Note: Fresh royal jelly should be kept refrigerated. Lyophilized (freeze-dried) forms are more shelf-stable.

“This meta-analysis examined the effects of Royal Jelly.”
Key Findings:
- Propolis demonstrated reductions in anthropometric measures and improvements in lipid profile, glycemic control, liver enzymes, and inflammation and oxidative stress markers.
- While long-term or high-dose honey consumption in individuals with health concerns warrants caution, RJ and propolis demonstrated dose-dependent benefits for cardiometabolic health with proper certainty.
- Future research should focus on population-specific characteristics and optimized dosages.© 2025.

“Future clinical studies are essential to confirm the safe dose of royal jelly as an adjuvant therapy in breast cancer.”
Key Findings:
- Future clinical studies are essential to confirm the safe dose of royal jelly as an adjuvant therapy in breast cancer.
- Published in Daru : journal of Faculty of Pharmacy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences (2024)
- Further research warranted to confirm findings
Rocha Filho LKA et al. • Archives of toxicology (2026)
“The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.”
Key Findings:
- Allergic responses were the most prevalent type of adverse event, particularly among atopic individuals.
- These findings highlight the need for appropriate labeling, post-marketing surveillance, and educational campaigns to ensure the safe use of these products.
- It is concluded that despite their recognized benefits, apitherapeutic products must be used with caution, and the strengthening of pharmacovigilance systems is essential to safeguard public health.© 2025.

“The findings suggest that RJ may help decrease oxidative stress and improve motor function and anti-oxidant capacity in MS patients, potentially slowing disease progression.”
Key Findings:
- Results indicated that the RJ group experienced a significant reduction in EDSS scores (P < 0.001) and MDA levels (P < 0.0001).
- The findings suggest that RJ may help decrease oxidative stress and improve motor function and anti-oxidant capacity in MS patients, potentially slowing disease progression.
- Further research warranted to confirm findings
Bahari H et al. • Complementary therapies in medicine (2023)
“RJ does not significantly affect liver function and glycemic profile of adult population.”
Key Findings:
- Combined estimate of effect sizes for the impact of RJ on neither the plasma liver enzymes nor the glycemic indices were statistically significant.
- RJ does not significantly affect liver function and glycemic profile of adult population.
- In trials with longer intervention and those conducted in non-healthy populations a significant reduction of serum FBG was observed.
- This meta-analysis should be repeated in the future, with more primary articles included, in order to provide conclusive results.
